Advising this week!

August 18, 2010

Hello and welcome! This week you will be learning lots about the campus and the art program. If you have any questions please ask! If you have issues with registration or still do not have a complete schedule, please attend an advising session. There are two, one for students whose names begin with A-L, one for K-Z. The first, (A-L) is Thursday from 3-4, the second (K-Z) is Friday 2-3:30. They are held on the second floor of Harder in the large freshman studio. If you are all set with registration, you do not need to attend these sessions. You will have other times to ask general questions.

First Week Project!

August 4, 2010

We’ll be working with artist Sheila Pepe the first week on a project titled Common Sense 3: Circular Industries. To get ready you’ll need to procure the following materials (before you come to campus) and crochet a 25 foot chain of gray yarn! If you’ve never crocheted before, don’t worry, you will learn it rather fast! I’ve included 2 links below to help you get started, but feel free to search around on you tube for other videos as well!

Materials:
One 2lb acrylic skein of yarn. This can be new or recycled by unraveling a sweater or other knitted/crocheted item. SOLID color only, not variegated.  Must be any color in the purple to red range – violet, pink, blueberry, grayish purple, dark red)
One small size ball of gray yarn, either new or recycled.
A bunch of ready made linear material that you will be able to crochet – scale of your choice. (fabric, rope, line, etc.) Same colors as yarn.
A set of crochet hooks – at least 3 sizes, a set of E-J is ideal.
Knitting needles, if you have them, larger sizes work best.

AND THEN

Use gray yarn to crochet ONE 25ft (or longer) chain ! Bring all with you on the first day!
