We’ll be working with artist Sheila Pepe the first week on a project titled Common Sense 3: Circular Industries. To get ready you’ll need to procure the following materials (before you come to campus) and crochet a 25 foot chain of gray yarn! If you’ve never crocheted before, don’t worry, you will learn it rather fast! I’ve included 2 links below to help you get started, but feel free to search around on you tube for other videos as well!
Materials:
One 2lb acrylic skein of yarn. This can be new or recycled by unraveling a sweater or other knitted/crocheted item. SOLID color only, not variegated. Must be any color in the purple to red range – violet, pink, blueberry, grayish purple, dark red)
One small size ball of gray yarn, either new or recycled.
A bunch of ready made linear material that you will be able to crochet – scale of your choice. (fabric, rope, line, etc.) Same colors as yarn.
A set of crochet hooks – at least 3 sizes, a set of E-J is ideal.
Knitting needles, if you have them, larger sizes work best.
AND THEN
Use gray yarn to crochet ONE 25ft (or longer) chain ! Bring all with you on the first day!
